And no worries – if your chimney requires repairs, you don’t have to worry about us pushing unnecessary jobs or tacking on unexpected charges accompanied by confusing jargon. We provide fair and honest assessments in every job we tackle, and we will get straight to the point, giving you advice that’s clear and straightforward.

Here’s all we have to offer:

Ables Top Hat Home Services has been serving Killeen, Temple, Austin, and surrounding communities for decades. We’ve built our company on a foundation of integrity and respect for our customers, and we don’t believe in a cookie-cutter approach. All home and business needs are different – and any maintenance plan we recommend to you will reflect that.

Why Are Regular Chimney Services Important?

When you were in the market for a new place to live, you probably noticed how vastly a well-maintained fireplace or wood stove made a place stand out from the rest. In fact, this feature is on the home wish list of many searching for their forever home.

But the fireplace face and mantel are just parts of a bigger chimney system. There are several components, like the damper, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, flue, and chimney cap, that have to work in harmony for your chimney to perform as efficiently as it can. If one of those parts fails to work properly, your system may be unsafe to use – and you could be putting your home at risk of a chimney fire or carbon monoxide poisoning by doing so.

By scheduling regular maintenance, such as annual inspections and sweeps, you can avoid the common issues that often result in significant repairs and rebuilds.

And even if you don’t plan on using your fireplace very often…yes – you should still have your chimney inspected once a year. Inactive chimneys are major attractions for wildlife, like rodents and birds, who build their nests out of flammable materials like foliage and insulation. Debris and vegetation can also grow and obstruct your chimney.

But the biggest threat to a chimney? Water. Chimneys are exposed to weather all year round and can become water damaged if waterproofing and other precautions aren’t in place.

Does Ables Top Hat Have Good Credentials?

We sure like to think so! We’re an industry leader in chimney services throughout the Austin, Temple, and Killeen area…and while we owe a lot of our success to hard work and dedication, investing in education is something that really sets us apart from those other chimney companies in the area.

Our techs combine hands-on experience with a commitment to expand their knowledge year after year, always staying up to date with industry news and advancements. As a company, we are active in our industry and regularly attend conferences and seminars to get the latest on new technology and industry trends.

What credentials do we boast? A certification with the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG), numerous “Best in Central Texas” and “Best of Cove” awards, hundreds of 5-star Google reviews…and more!

What to Expect During a Chimney Service…Is It Messy?

Not when you work with us! Sure, if not done properly, then yes – it can be a mess! That said, while it is generally accepted that there will be some dust created during the process, we do everything we can to mitigate the problem by using our specialized tools and equipment.

The first thing we ask is that you, the homeowner, have the area as clear as possible so we can get our equipment in the space and work as cleanly as possible. We do that by setting up a barrier between the space and the firebox to trap any and all particles within the firebox with a HEPA-filtered vacuum.

That means very few customers who use Ables Top Hat experience any type of mess – in fact, families report minimal interference with day-to-day life after having their chimney swept with our team.

Having said this, servicing a chimney (even when done with the utmost care) could still result in some disruption to your home as particles of soot, dust, and creosote can make their way down through the hearth and possibly onto furniture or carpets. It’s rare – however, it can happen.

Our professional and certified chimney sweeps will assess any potential risks associated with sweeping your fireplace before handing out any recommendations. With the right preparation, messes can and will be avoided. And if they do happen, we will make sure your home is professionally cleaned like it never even happened.

After the fact, regular maintenance – along with annual inspections – will go a long way in preventing any additional mess in the future.

Thank you for an excellent service. Jennifer, Micah and Colton showed courtesy from the beginning of our inquiry to the completion of our requested service. Micah explained problem areas clearly and suggested options for solutions. Can’t wait for the new vent cover! Thank you very much, Ables Top Hat Home Services!

Is It Dangerous if I Sweep a Chimney Myself?

Sweeping your own chimney can be a risky undertaking, as it requires special equipment and knowledge to do safely. Without the necessary safety precautions in place, sweeping your own chimney runs the risk of creating a mess or even emitting dangerous substances, like carbon monoxide, into your home.

For instance, if large amounts of soot and debris build up enough, removing them yourself could cause a substantial mess as the chunks of creosote would have to be removed by hand.

Additionally, the improper technique could result in releasing hazardous particles into the air – or even create a fire hazard from disturbed soot within the chimney walls. For these reasons and more, it’s always best to hire a professional for chimney sweeping service instead of attempting it on your own.

Finally, if any areas get missed or overlooked, fire hazards will still be present…which is the last thing anyone wants.

So, despite there being a market for DIY chimney sweep kits, this isn’t a route we suggest taking.
